Artist Inspiration

Today in Block 2, room 4 and our class, 6, had 3 (mainly 2) special visitors that came to talk to us about some stuff. They're both artists, but have totally different styles. There was Cody Rapley, who is a graphic artist and does stuff like concept art, and Sophie Blokker, who does mostly chibi and anime; and Clare Blokker who is an artist/designer. Cody Rapley, is actually Miss Ellingham's nephew so, that was one of the reasons that they were able to come here! They mainly talked about what they do and showed us different works of art. They also talked about how they got into it and different tools and softwares they use. They run a buissiness called 'Lockerby Design'. Click here to visit their website. The Netherlands, also commonly known as Holland is a very small country in Europe which lies on the North sea next to Germany and Belgium. It has a population of around 16,609,200 people which is way, way, way, more than New Zealand and since the Netherlands is way, way, way, smaller it makes it a very crowded country. Did you know, that 20% of the country is below sea level and 21% of the population lives on that 20% of the country, which is below sea level? Anyway, here are some quick fire facts about the Netherlands:

The capital is Amsterdam.

Their language is Dutch.

The currency is Euros.

The government is Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy.

The seat of government is in The Hague.

Their Monarch is Queen Beatrix.


Their Prime Minister is Jan Peter Balkenende.

The Netherlands is best known for their tulips, windmills and clogs. Clogs, which are wooden shoes were traditional dutch footwear worn by the common people. Less well known is that they are the eighth largest exporter of goods and the worlds third largest exporter of food. They are also the largest cheese exporter in the world!

The Kiwi

Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. There are five recognised species, all of which are endangered. They are 'The Great Spotted' or 'Roroa' kiwi which is the largest of them all, the 'Little Spotted' kiwi which is the smallest, 'Okarito Brown' kiwi, the 'Southern Brown' or 'Tokoeka' kiwi and the 'Northern brown' kiwi.

Kiwi have a highly developed sense of smell. They eat small invertebrates, seeds, grubs, and many kinds of worms. They also may eat fruit, small crayfish, eels and amphibians. Because their nostrils are located at the end of their long beaks, Kiwi can locate insects and worms underground without actually seeing or feeling them!

Kiwi eggs can weigh up to one third the weight of the female. Usually only one egg is laid per season.The kiwi lays the biggest egg in proportion to its size of any bird in the world! The eggs are smooth, and are ivory or greenish white. The male incubates the egg, except for the Great spotted kiwi, where both parents are involved. The incubation period is 63–92 days.

Identity and Culture

Well, both my parents come from China, my mum from Beijing and Dad, I'm not quite sure. We celebrate the Chinese New Year which is the 14th of Feb this year, which is the year of the tiger (go tigers!!! Woohoo!!!*). There's also the Moon Festival which we celebrate sometime in August and is always on a full moon (and you have to eat moon cake which is round and has egg in it. For me it tastes alright). Our family celebrates Christmas (every family should celebrate that), Birthdays (and that) and thats all I can think of.

*Its's because I'm a tiger

P.S Chinese cuisine is D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S!!! Well most of it anyway.
P.P.S I have no idea why I used the word 'cuisine' instead of just plain old 'food'.

What is Wireless Charging?

The question we're all asking: What is Wireless Charging?

Wireless Charging is a device which charges your cellphones, iphones, ipods, mp3s etc. without having to plug it into a power socket or needing a charger.

How it works: You just get your device that needs charging, and place it on your Charging Station.

The devices are charged via a receiver that works on magnetic induction. Energy is transferred via an electromagnetic field (ChaCha Answers) which causes to charge your electrical device.

Pros and Cons

Pros: You can charge your device in the car or nearly anywhere that doesn't have power to connect to.

Cons: You need a special case for your device to charge it, which costs more money. Whats the point?

I don't know what I see about technology being used in the future but i think wireless charging can be really useful for people.

My Goals 4 Term1

Hi, these are just 3 goals that I've set myself for Term1.

1. To not be late for school ( I've already been late once)

2. Be Organised (I am not a very organised person)
